Together In Solitude

Two train tracks lay side by side

Two trains on them, passed each other by

One, with its destination and travelers unknown

And the other, transporting familiarity, and I

I looked out my window to see its twin

Running away from me were scores of faces

Some were talking, most were pensive

Lost in memories, lost in places

We're farthest at six feet apart

Close enough to see their tears

Never enough to brush them away

Never enough to feel their fears

Oblivious to the human experience

Separated by a vast expanse

Frayed are the threads that bind us together

To each their own trance
